About Functional Tutoring
Thoughtful tutoring starts with knowing the student.
Functional Tutoring brings together complementary backgrounds in STEM, Spanish, writing, and the humanities. Our sessions are personal, practical, and built around the way each student learns best.

Owner & tutor
Hi, I’m Tyler.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Connecticut. I began tutoring while in college, helping fellow students, serving as a teaching assistant, and co-founding a small math club. Being proactive about learning, both my own and my students’, has shaped how I approach tutoring from the start.
I’ve spent several years tutoring students from early elementary through upper-level college, both independently and in academic settings. I’m especially comfortable with algebra, geometry, and calculus, but I enjoy working across a wide range of STEM subjects. Students I’ve worked with have gone on to attend schools including Cornell, Bowdoin College, Dartmouth, and Boston University.
My goal is to create a supportive, low-pressure environment where students can ask honest questions, understand the reasoning behind the work, and make steady progress.

Tutor
Hey, my name is Ari.
I graduated from Wesleyan University in 2022 with degrees in Psychology and Hispanic Literatures and Cultures. I’ve worked with students in many different contexts, including serving as a language assistant in Spain, teaching social psychological concepts to an international cohort of learners, and leading workshops on sustainable agriculture and ecology.
I am particularly passionate about helping students with Spanish, psychology and counseling, music, and creativity. I’m also excited to tailor tutoring sessions to each student’s needs and interests. I bring a friendly, playful energy and a strong work ethic to the work we do together.
Continuously learning has been one of the great joys of my life, and I love supporting students on their own journey toward confidence and curiosity.
