What this diagnostic measures

Eighth grade connects proportional thinking to slope, functions, systems, and exponents. This diagnostic checks the seventh-grade foundations that let students focus on those new connections instead of backtracking through arithmetic.

Administration note

Encourage equations for word problems even when mental reasoning seems faster. The ability to represent a situation symbolically is a central readiness skill for eighth-grade algebra.
