How to approach coordinate plane introduction

An ordered pair (x, y) locates a point by moving horizontally from the origin for x and then vertically for y. Signs determine left or right and down or up.

Axis points have one coordinate equal to zero. Point labels should sit near the dot without covering the grid location used to read the coordinates.
